On August 4th 2020 a massive explosion devastated the port of Beirut and the surrounding neighborhoods. More than 200 people died, 6000 were injured and thousands of buildings were destroyed. The catastrophe shocked the citizens of Lebanon as well as the international community. Many people around the world expressed their solidarity by making donations. forumZFD also called for donations and collected around 80,000 Euro. With these funds we were able to support six initiatives in Beirut that help the local civil society in dealing with the aftermath of the blast – and at the same time promote long-term change in Lebanon.
The time is ripe for a shift in how we conduct political discourse, and how politics is done in this country.
