Attack on Ukraine

Joint statement of the implementing agencies of the Civil Peace Service

We are deeply shaken by the Russian military attack on Ukraine and strongly condemn it. Our thoughts are with the people in Ukraine and we appeal urgently to the Russian government to lay down their arms and return to the negotiating table. This is the only way to prevent greater suffering.

From history we have learned that violence can never make peace. We need to put all our efforts into non-violent means to stop the pointless bloodshed on every side. Efforts for de-escalation, understanding and peace must not let up.

We are in continuous contact with our Ukrainian colleagues and partners. Their safety and wellbeing are of highest priority in the current situation. We offer them psycho-social support and do everything in our power to ensure this. We are striving to find solutions to protect our Ukrainian staff from the military attacks in the best possible way.

During these hard times, the Civil Peace Service stands firmly and in solidarity by the side of their Ukrainian staff and partners.
