Voices Against the War
A Conversation with Jewish and Palestinian Activists from Israel
Since October 7, a just peace in Israel and Palestine seems further away than ever. The increasing violence not only affects the civilian population, but also challenges those committed to promoting dialogue and understanding – including the Israeli grassroots movement Standing Together.
In personal talks, Amal Ghawi and Itamar Avneri provide insights into their work with the movement, which brings together Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel. Despite this extreme time of crisis, they are pursuing a common vision: an end to the occupation, peace and social justice. Amal, journalist and activist, and Itamar, co-founder of the movement and city councilor in Tel Aviv-Yafo, talk openly about the hopes and challenges of their work.
What motivates them to work towards a peaceful and just shared society in the midst of tensions? And where are the opportunities and limits when it comes to driving change as a social movement? These events offers space for new perspectives and invite you to exchange ideas and ask questions.
About Standing Together
Standing Together is a progressive grassroots movement that mobilizes Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel against the occupation and for peace, equality, social and climate justice. With over 5,000 members, it is the biggest movement of its kind in Israel. In response to Hamas's atrocities of October 7th and Israel's harsh retaliation, Standing Together became a driving force in the protests for a ceasefire and hostage deal. Its initiatives strengthened Jewish-Palestinian cooperation in Israel, such as Solidarity Watches in mixed cities, and ensured aid to Gazans: Joint Jewish-Palestinian Humanitarian Guard protecting aid trucks against settler violence attracted the police’s and worldwide attention and enabled a safe passage.
