For three days 20 journalists from Kosovo and North Macedonia came together in Prishtina to learn and discuss DwP -Conflict Sensitive Journalism and Peace Journalism. The training was led by Steven Youngblood, director of the Center for Global Peace Journalism at Park University, USA, and a passionate peace journalism instructor.
Focussing on dealing with the past in journalistic work and conflict-sensitive journalism, the workshop also covered topics such as memorialization, constructive memory, responsible trauma reporting, and the role of social media. In addition, the participants received an overview of the regional media’s situation by Xhemajl Rexha from Association of Kosovo Journalist (AGK) and a brief introduction to AGK’s work.
On the second day, Ukrainian journalist Daria Meshcheriakova gave an in-depth insight into her experiences living in occupied Ukraine. Her report not only triggered intensive discussions in the workshop, but also brought back memories of the latest conflicts in the Balkan region. The third day of the workshop mostly covered the ideas and content for media articles which will be produced in teams of journalists from the two countries.
The regional trainings will be followed by two local trainings in Kosovo and North Macedonia.
