Open Society Archives Workshop for the Prijedor Archive Project

The Prijedor Archive Project was initiated 2015 as a result of the Memory Lab platform which gathers professionals and actors in the field of memory and dealing with past across the Western Balkan Region. The idea behind this initiative is to foster the dealing with past process in Prijedor with a strong focus on the local community and younger generations.

The project aims to systematically collect as many documents about the recent past as possible, categorize them and make them available for further research and information sharing in order to shed light into the circumstances and character of the events during the recent war in Prijedor.

This idea joint two Prijedor based organization The Women Association Izvor with focus on family members of war crime victims and war crime victims and the Youth Center Kvart which works on human rights topics with a strong focus in including local youth in the process of Dealing with the past. The forumZFD office in Bosnia and Herzegovina has facilitated this process with the support of professionals and other actors on similar approaches in the Western Balkan Region. The process of collecting documents for the future documentation center and archive was also supported.  As one result of this process the Foundation IKS (Fondacija za izgradnju kulture sjećanja) was founded and serves as the legal embodiment of Prijedor Archive Project.

In order to encourage further networking and capacity building towards a more functional organization of the archival materials on the 8th and 9th April forumZFD hosted an another workshop in Prijedor which was accompanied by experts from the Open Society Archive from Budapest. At the two day workshop experts from Open Society Archive have presented their catalogue and archiving system. Some suitable software solutions were also discussed.
