On 24th June, the team of young peace activists from Mitrovica North organized an event aimed at raising awareness on the urgency of protecting and preserving environment. Natural environment is, indeed, a common richness, and its protection a shared responsibility, going beyond all borders. Through a presentation and a quiz, youth discussed the causes and consequences of pollution, the impact of human actions on nature, the importance of individual and collective behaviors and each person’s civic responsibility in this sense. In order to transfer the fruitful discussion into concrete action, the team will organize a cleaning activity in the coming weeks.

“WISH FOR PEACE” is the message conveyed by the team of young activists from Gjakovë/Đakovica through a new mural, realized on 26th and 27th June in the city center. The mural calls for an active engagement towards the promotion of cultural diversity, respect and non-violence. According to local activists and partners, the persistence of discrimination and divisions remains the main problem affecting Kosovo today. For this reason, youth plays a key role in building an alternative for a more inclusive peaceful society.

The Future We Want” is a regional project implemented by forumZFD in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia in partnership with local Organizations. The first phase of the project was implemented in 2019. In Gjakovë/Đakovica and Mitrovica North, the project is implemented in cooperation with, respectively, NGO Roma in Action (RIA) and NGO Local Initiative LINK.

The project aims to promote intercultural exchange to challenge stereotypes, ethnocentric narratives and division, and build a better future through youth capacity-building and local advocacy actions. Indeed, while learning together, sharing their opinions, and living common experiences, young participants overcome barriers, which are persisting in today’s Western Balkans societies.
